In April of 2011, The owner of the winery across the street from my school removed a public mural from the back of his building. He did so by covering it with grey paint. Muralist Mia Tavonatti and a team enacted the mural in 2003, and what took two 14-week semesters of work was erased in merely a night. Either he didn't know it was public art or he didn't like it. Probably both.
Of course there angry people! Mia Tavonatti's Power of Words Project funded by her nonprofit Svelatafoundation is now resurrecting the wall with a new team which I happen to be a part of. This was back at the beginning when we were all pitching ideas to the laguna beach art committee for the Mural. I only got second place, because CHERYL's was AWESOME !! Its still in progress, but looking pretty solid, go see if you can! Directions 1. Go to the beach taking Laguna Canyon Rd. 2. Once you past LCAD look in your rearview mirror, see it on the left. 3. Have fun at the Beach 4. Look at it on your way back :D

Congratulations CHERYL !!!!
Cheryl Kook, you won! Click here to give your winning speech! lol Link to video "Wonder - A Glow in the Dark" This is the design that I pitched to the committee. The theme was wonder, so I wanted to my design to be filled with all things that evoke "wonder." Children, roller coasters, stars, planets and the sea. I called mine a glow in the dark, and wanted to adopt that as the central theme of wonder. There's always a tiny light glowing somewhere, it causes us wonder about them. An idea in our head, a shooting star, the nights sky. All sights of wonder, all glowing in the dark. |
